Went to Gencarelli's in Wayne NJ this week when visiting customers in the area. Have been to this bakery many times in the past, as well as their other location in Bloomfield NJ. It's been a little while as I don't get to the area as much as in the past.
This is a reliable old school Italian bakery with a wide assortment of sweets and bread & rolls. Some of my regular "go-to" items include donuts, crumb buns, and brownies. They have a nice variety of each, including 3-4 types of brownies and 3 types of crumb buns. My favorites are the peanut butter brownies and iced crumb buns, as well as the pretzel and crumb cake donuts.
Although I didn't get any this trip, their round layer cakes and pies are very good and have a wide range of choices. There's white and chocolate buttercream and fudge frosting and fillings varieties coupled with yellow and chocolate cake choices to give many different flavor combinations. Have enjoyed many of them over the years! 😋
Also got a large Chinese (marble) cookie and some rolls. Both good but not the best things there. I'm sure I'll stop by again the next time I'm in the area.
