Oakmont Bakery - a Pittsburgh area icon!

Finally made it to local legend Oakmont Bakery this week, even though I've been coming out to Pittsburgh for the last couple years. And after visiting, don't know what took me so long, it's a great bakery!!

According to their website, Oakmont has been open since 1988. Looks like they moved at some point to their current facility which looks fairly new. It is definitely the biggest (at least from a retail space perspective) of any bakery I've been to with the nicest appearance. This is a beautiful bakery! They have a full cafe and seating area in addition to a monstrous length bakery counter. There's even couches and a fireplace in the seating area.

You need to take a number when entering which is not surprising as it looks to be VERY popular. Our number was in the 500's (!!) which was a little scary initially but they were only a few numbers ahead of my daughter Carly and I, and they had a lot of people working. In fact, they got to our number before we had finished perusing the gigantic selection of all types of baked goods.

They had all manner of cakes, cookies, bars, pies - almost any baked good you can imagine they had. Also had an impressive donut case and a wide variety of breads, rolls and bagels. The bagels were the only thing in the bakery that didn't look great from the case so we passed on them. But everything else in the bread section looked good and we got an Asiago baguette. It was very good and we shared it on the ride home. 😋

It was difficult selecting which sweets to get considering the immense selection, so got an assortment of things. Thankfully, they had mini size versions of many of their popular cakes and pies so got a peanut butter fudge torte and chocolate peanut butter pie. Also got a few different cookies, such as frosted oatmeal, chocolate chip, snickerdoodle and peanut butter "blossom".  (I know lots of peanut butter stuff! 😛)

Also got a chocolate whoopie pie (called gobs here) and "maple sticks" tray. The whoopie pie was good although not the best I ever had but the maple stick was extremely good. Really enjoyed the cinnamon danish texture and maple frosting. After the first day or two, heating in the microwave for ~15 seconds made it as enjoyable as the first day.

Bottom line - Oakmont is a tremendous bakery all around and I can't wait for my next trip to Pittsburgh to try more goodies!! 😃
