Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe - Arlington, VA - A Frequent DC area stop!

Went to Heidelberg over the holidays (actually twice! 😜) while visiting my family in McLean. Was introduced to this bakery/pastry shop a few years ago by my sister and fellow baked goods aficionado G. She had moved into the area and got my nephew's birthday party cupcakes there. Since then, I have stopped there on almost every visit to G's.

Heidelberg is a German bakery with a wide variety of donuts, pastries, cakes/cupcakes, breads and even has a small deli and gourmet foods section. In fact, they usually have a daily special of a sausage sandwich with beverage or slice of cake included. Haven't tried one but it does look tasty and have seen many people partake of this. There's a small seating area to enjoy your food. Owing to their German heritage they also have a few varieties of soft pretzels which are always fresh and very good! There's also a couple types of coffee, which they even give out samples of on the weekends. 😉

My favorites are the donuts and pastries as well as the soft pretzels. I'm partial to cake style donuts which are excellent here, especially the hard to find maple frosted ones! On the pastry side, really enjoy the cinnamon based ones including a butter crumb danish and cinnamon twist, see picture below. (Love cinnamon! 😛)

While I haven't tried the cakes, the cupcakes are excellent. including the double chocolate ones. Had those a couple times and other varieties sampled at my nephew's birthday a couple years ago. Actually can't remember trying anything there that I didn't enjoy.

I'm sure that I'll continue my tradition of stopping here every time I go to G's!
