Went to Curiosity Donuts in Tyson's Corner VA today while visiting my sister Greer for Thanksgiving, who had recommended it. She was right on target as these were great donuts! The shop is located within a Whole Foods store in their inside food court. They only sell donuts but you can grab a coffee at the Allegro Coffee Bar right down the aisle.
They have a wide variety of doughs and flavors, including yeasted, cruller, cake, potato based, "angel" or biscuit like, "meltaways" and even sourdough. We got a baker's dozen for the family of assorted flavors and everything I sampled was excellent! The first thing we ate (in the car! 😆) was the Spiral donut, which had a nice crisp texture on the outside and almost a croissant-like one inside with a bit of cinnamon swirl. It was well balanced and might have been my favorite.
Had forgotten to take pictures when we first bought the dozen so went back to take some and ended up buying more donuts! They had brought out a couple new varieties - S'Mores and Mocha Clusters, which is 7 attached donut holes glazed with mocha frosting in the center. Couldn't resist!! 😂
The woman who waited on us (pictured below) was very helpful and friendly, taking time to explain all the different varieties. She even gave me recommendations for bakeries and restaurants in Pittsburgh, where coincidentally I'm heading this weekend and next!
As it turns out the Tyson's location had recently opened and the first 2 are closer to home in Spring House PA and Princeton NJ. The donuts are a little pricey ($3/each) but are substantial, very tasty and worth the price!
