Stopped at a regular destination when traveling to and from MA this week, Sturbridge Coffee House. This cozy shop is located right on Main Street (US-20) about a mile down from the exit on I-84, which is the 1st exit on 84 after leaving the Mass Pike. So it's pretty convenient to get to, less than a 5 minute detour off the highway. Was originally referred here by my colleague Joe who lives near there, and also directed me to another local legend close by - BT's Smokehouse (thanks Joe!!).
In addition to coffee, which is from regional favorite Red Barn, Sturbridge Coffee House has an nice assortment of baked goods. They also sell soups, salads and sandwiches but who are we kidding here?! 😜
By far, my two favorite things here are the muffin tops and large cookies. They have a wide variety of muffin tops but if you get there in the afternoon, the selection might be limited as they tend to sell out. (See picture) Part of the reason is they do a 3 for 2 special after 12, which I have taken advantage of many times. 😉
My preferred muffin top flavor is the Cinnamon Chip, but it's popular so often sold out by the time I get there. Other good ones include Double Chocolate Chip, a Chocolate/Vanilla mix, plus French Vanilla and Gingerbread, which I got on this trip.
They don't have as many varieties of cookies as muffin tops, but usually have 3-4 flavors on any given day. My favorite is the Peanut Butter Cup, which has large chunks of actual cups baked right in as you'll see in the picture. As with the Cinnamon Chip muffin, it sells out fairly often! They also have traditional Chocolate Chunk, Sugar, Oatmeal Raisin, Peanut Butter etc.
Finally, there's also things like Crumb Cake (pretty good as well), cupcakes, cinnamon buns and a few other goodies. I'll continue to stop here on my trips to New England!
